Theatron Blue

Acrylic on Board, 31cm x 60cm

£450

This painting was part of my ‘An Audience With St Ives Bay’ exhibition which explored theatre themes, with the idea the chalets in Riviere Towans in Hayle are the spectators / audience, with the sea and sky being the stage.

This painting is an energetic piece. I was exploring how to depict static architecture in a way that has movement, not limited to verticals and horizontals. The foreground is highly reductive, with just an impression of the chalets, which contrasts with the focal chalets in the distance.

I felt the blues had a coastal Greek feel, which inspired the name ‘Theatron’, which means Theatre in ancient Greek. ‘Theatron’ also has a futuristic feel which felt right when thinking about this painting.

This painting was exhibited at the Summerhouse Gallery in Marazion, Cornwall as part of the An Audience With St Ives Bay in 2023. It is titled and signed to the reverse.

Framed in a white tray frame, ready to hang.
