Nearly There

This painting was part of my ‘Before The Sea’ exhibition at the Penwith Gallery in St Ives in 2021. The collection explored what you see before you get to the ultimate spot to view the landscape. You are often walking by the backs of coastal architecture. This is what this painting is exploring, just a few steps away from being presented with the awe inspiring view of St Ives Bay. You are walking by the corner of a chalet, presented with a drain cover in the grass, some abandoned plastic chairs and some downpipes from the guttering. It is looking at the everyday, the elements we ignore in pursuit of getting to the desrtination.
